Preparing Future Educators for Diverse Populations:
Supporting LGBTQ Students in Schools
Did you know…?
...that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) teens in the U.S. are three times more likely than their heterosexual peers to be assaulted at school and three times more likely to be threatened or injured with a weapon at school? (Human Rights Watch, 2001)
...that LGBQT teens who have been bullied are almost twice as likely as their heterosexual peers to miss school, resulting in GPAs that are one-half point lower than students who feel safe and do not miss school? (GLSEN, 2009)
...that nearly 1 in 10 elementary students in 3rd to 6th grade indicate that they do not always conform to traditional gender norms/roles? (GLSEN, 2012)
Please join SEEDS for Change
