PFLAG Blue Ridge urges support for HB1385

Delegate Patrick Hope of Arlington has introduced a bill into the Virginia General Assembly which would seek to amend the Code of Virginia to prohibit licensed therapists from practicing "conversion" or "reparative" therapy on minors. The bill, HB1385, is currently before the Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions.

PFLAG Blue Ridge encourages support of this bill and invites the public to write to members of the House Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions. Below is a suggested message; contact info for Committee Members follows.

I ask that you support HB1385, legislation to prohibit harmful 'conversion therapy' aimed at Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender minors. 'Conversion therapy'  is the non-scientific, non-medical, and unsafe attempt to change the sexual orientation and gender identity of children and adults, contrary to the individual's affirmed orientation and identity. It is the consensus of the medical/clinical community that conversion therapy does not work and is in fact dangerous, particularly to children. Please consider signing on as a co-patron of and voting for HB1385.
